ABOUT moot court

The competition upholds its reputation as a premier national moot, promoting intellectual rigour and legal excellence drawing participation from top law schools, offering students a platform to engage with pressing legal issues and develop essential advocacy skills. In each of the previous editions of our institution’s moot court competitions, we engaged in discussions on significant topics of relevance, including environmental challenges and constitutional law, the intersection of artificial intelligence and criminal liability, as well as refugee laws.This year’s St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara Moot Court Competition, 2025 examines whether International Criminal Court of Justice (ICJ) can prosecute war crimes committed by an official of a non-party State. It explores the legitimacy of an arrest warrant aimed at concerns of political bias, the tension between State sovereignty and international accountability as well as application of self-defence in international humanitarian law (IHL). The moot problem raises key issues about jurisdiction, procedural integrity and the enforcement of international justice.

ABOUT ST. KURIAKOSE ELIAS CHAVARA MOOT COURT COMPETITION - 2025

The St Kuriakose Elias Chavara Moot Court Competition is a flagship event of Christ Academy Institute of Law (CAIL). It is scheduled on 17 th and 18 th May, 2025. The moot court committee of CAIL has successfully hosted various moot court competitions in the previous years. The competition continues to uphold its reputation as a premier national moot, promoting intellectual rigor and legal excellence. In each of the previous editions of our institution's moot court competitions, we engaged in discussions on significant topics of relevance, including environmental challenges and constitutional law, the intersection of artificial intelligence and criminal liability, as well as refugee laws. This year the moot court proposition will examine the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICJ) and its power to prosecute the officials of a non-party state. The registrations for the competitions have started. The last date for Final Registration is 3rd April,2025.
