CAIL Infrastructure

The Library Advisory Committee oversees and guides the effective functioning of the library. It comprises faculty members from various disciplines, with one member serving as the Convener. The committee plays a key role in:

  • Recommending policies for the library’s governance

  • Ensuring its all-round development

  • Strengthening the library’s integration with the academic goals of the Institution

The committee ensures that the library remains a vital academic resource, closely aligned with the educational and research needs of the institution.

About the CAIL Library

The CAIL Library is a well-equipped academic resource center that supports the diverse learning and research needs of law students. It houses an extensive collection of books and periodicals, covering a wide range of national and international legal subjects.

In addition to this, the library maintains a comprehensive stock of all prescribed textbooks and reference materials relevant to both major and minor courses in the curriculum.

Students benefit from round-the-clock access to resources through the digital library services, enabling seamless learning beyond classroom hours.

The core objective of the CAIL Library is to ignite a spirit of learning, foster intellectual curiosity, and build a research-oriented culture among aspiring legal professionals.

The library also provides access to a variety of newspapers and magazines, ensuring students stay updated with current events and legal developments.

Library timings

The CAIL Library remains open throughout the year, with the exception of certain holidays. Please take note of the following schedule:

Monday to Saturday (except 2nd & 4th Saturday)
🕒 07:30 AM to 06:30 PM

Holidays – Library Closed On:

  • Sundays

  • Second and Fourth Saturdays

  • General Public Holidays

Note: During vacation periods, the library timings may vary.

Library Membership and Circulation

I. Library Membership and Loan Period

All law students, faculty, and visiting/adjunct faculty of Christ Academy Institute of Law are eligible for library membership.

  • Library membership is linked to the Institute ID Card, which is issued by the IT Department.

II. Rules for Borrowing Books

  • Books will be issued only on presentation of the Institute ID Card.

  • No borrowing transaction will be processed without a valid Student ID card.

  • The Student ID card is non-transferable and must be used only by the cardholder.

  • Do not write, underline, or highlight in library books. Mutilation or damage is strictly prohibited.

  • Students may borrow 2 books for 15 days.

  • Books must be returned or renewed before the due date.

  • Renewal is subject to availability and cannot be done if the book is requested by another user.

  • A fine of ₹10 per day per book will be charged for late returns.

  • In the event of loss of a book, the borrower must:

    • Replace the book with the same title and latest edition, or

    • Pay double the cost of the lost book.

  • Borrowers should check books for missing pages/chapters before borrowing.

  • Damaged books will not be accepted on return. Borrowers must replace any damaged items.

  • Loss of Identity Card must be reported immediately to the IT Department. Borrowers are responsible for any misuse of lost or duplicate cards.

  • If a book or periodical is damaged or lost, the borrower must replace it or pay double the cost.

    • In the case of a multi-volume set, the cost of the entire set may be charged if individual volumes are not available separately.

Library Services and Facilities

The Library’s Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is a web-based search tool that enables students and faculty to conveniently explore all library holdings.

  • OPAC is accessible through both the Intranet and Internet.

  • Users can search the library database using multiple fields such as:

    • Title

    • Author

    • Subject

    • Keywords

Search results will either provide direct electronic access (for digital resources) or indicate the physical location of the item within the library.


Computer and Networking Facilities in the Library

To support seamless access to resources and enhance the study environment, the library offers:

  • All library systems connected to the campus-wide LAN, allowing users to access online resources directly from their desktop systems.

  • Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the library space.

  • Dedicated electrical power points are available to facilitate the use of personal laptops and other devices.

These facilities ensure that students and staff can efficiently access e-resources, enhancing their learning and research experience.

Christ Academy Institute of Law (CAIL) provides access to a wide range of online databases and journal resources to support legal education and research. Students and faculty can access these resources through the campus network and, in some cases, via remote login.

Electronic Resources: Conditions of Use

Access and Usage Guidelines for Electronic Resources

  1. Username and Password Allocation
    The username and password required to access the institution’s electronic resources are provided exclusively to authorized users—those affiliated with Christ Academy Institute of Law (CAIL), including students, scholars, and academic staff members.

  2. Ownership of Credentials
    The username and password issued for accessing electronic resources remain the property of Christ Academy Institute of Law.

  3. Restrictions on Sharing Access
    Remote access to the library’s electronic resources is a privilege extended to authorized users only. Sharing of credentials or remote access with anyone outside the institution is strictly prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in the forfeiture of access and may lead to a penalty or suspension from using library resources.

  4. User Responsibility
    Users are solely responsible for any activities carried out under their username and password. The theft or misuse of login details is a serious matter. If you believe your login information has been stolen or misused, it is mandatory to report it immediately to the Librarian.

  5. Log-off Requirement
    Users must log off immediately after completing their session, whether using a private device or a shared terminal. This ensures the security of your account and protects the institution’s resources.

  6. Academic Use Only
    The remote resources are licensed solely for academic purposes, such as teaching, learning (including distance learning), private study, and research. Commercial use is strictly prohibited. Users must also provide appropriate copyright attribution when utilizing articles or documents from these resources.

  7. Device Limitation
    Users are permitted to log in from only one device at a time. This includes laptops, mobile phones, or tablets. Logging in from multiple devices simultaneously is not allowed.


Do’s:

  • Save parts of the resources (e.g., journal articles) electronically for personal use.

  • Print a single copy of journal articles or other resources.

  • Distribute single copies of resources (in print or electronic format) to other authorized users within the institution.

  • Copy and paste material from resources into teaching materials or coursework, provided proper source acknowledgment is given.


Don’ts:

  • Do not share the resource with unauthorized users.

  • Do not display any part of the resource on publicly accessible websites or networks.

  • Do not make multiple copies or share electronic versions of materials with unauthorized individuals.

  • Do not systematically download materials (e.g., creating a local archive by downloading every article from a journal).

  • Do not alter or remove passwords or other access credentials.


These guidelines are in place to protect both the integrity of the library’s resources and the rights of content creators. Violation of these terms may lead to disciplinary action.
