Overview of 3-Year LL.B. Programmes
The 3-Year LL.B. Programme offered by Christ Academy Institute of Law is a full-time professional undergraduate programme in law, designed for graduates from any discipline who aspire to pursue a career in the legal field. The programme is conducted in accordance with the Karnataka State Law University’s Regulations Governing the Three Year LL. B. Degree Course in Law.

Syllabus

Course Duration and Structure
The 3-Year LL.B. Programme is a full-time undergraduate law programme designed to provide comprehensive legal education over a period of three academic years. The programme is structured in accordance with the regulations prescribed by Karnataka State Law University (KSLU).
- Duration: Three academic years comprising six semesters.
- Academic Year: Each academic year is divided into two semesters.
- Semester Period: Each semester extends over six months, including a minimum of 18 weeks of instruction.
- Teaching Hours: Every subject is taught for a minimum of 90 hours per semester.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction for all courses offered under the 3-Year LL.B. Programme is English. All internal assessments, practical examinations, and university examinations are conducted in English. Students are required to answer all examination papers exclusively in English.
Attendance
As per the Karnataka State Law University Regulations (as amended in 2020):
“13. No student shall be permitted to appear for the end-of-semester examination unless, in a given course, he/she has fulfilled the course requirements and has kept the term by putting in not less than 70% attendance in the course concerned. A student shall keep the term by filing the examination application form with the necessary fees.
Provided that a student who has attended not less than 65% of classes in each of the subjects prescribed may be permitted to keep the term for reasons to be recorded in writing and to the satisfaction of the Principal of the College or the Dean of the Faculty, as the case may be.”
Promotion
As per the Karnataka State Law University Regulations (as amended in 2020):
“14(a). Every student shall be promoted to the next higher class irrespective of the fact that he/she has failed in any of the papers prescribed for study.
(b). Students are required to successfully complete the entire course within five years (three years of normal duration plus two years of extended duration) from the date of admission.
(c). Candidates who do not complete the degree within five years may be granted an additional one-year extension under exceptional circumstances when they are unable to appear for examinations during the extended period due to:
- Health reasons certified by a qualified medical practitioner.
- Supervening disability certified by a qualified medical practitioner.
- Representing the Country, State, or University in sports or co-curricular competitions.
Provided that the candidate has reported the inability to appear for the examination to the Registrar through the Principal of the respective college within one month from the date of the examination or the term that he/she was unable to attend.
Provided further that candidates representing the Country, State, or University in sports or co-curricular competitions shall have obtained prior permission from the University through the Principal of the College.
(d). A student who has kept the terms of any semester shall be permitted to proceed to the next semester.
(e). A student who fails to keep the terms in an even semester shall keep the terms of that semester along with students of subsequent batches.
(f). A student who fails to keep the terms in an odd semester shall seek readmission to the same year along with students of subsequent batches.”
Award of Degree
A student shall be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Degree upon the successful completion of all prescribed courses across the six semesters of the programme. In addition, the student’s character and conduct throughout the duration of the course must be certified as satisfactory by the institution.
Award of Classes
The classification of the degree shall be based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained across all six semesters of the programme.
- First Class with Distinction: 70% and above
- First Class: 60% and above but less than 70%
- Second Class: 50% and above but less than 60%
- Pass Class: 40% and above but less than 50%
