Overview of 2-Year LL.M. Programme
Christ Academy Institute of Law (CAIL) offers an exceptional LL.M. programme in Constitutional Law. This advanced degree aims to give students a thorough understanding of the underlying ideas that regulate power structure within constitutional frameworks and administrative processes. CAIL stresses a comprehensive approach, combining theoretical insights with practical applications, to prepare students to critically analyse and address difficult legal challenges in the public law domain. The programme is designed to draw intellectually curious and insightful students to enhance classroom justice, thus allowing them to gain critical perspectives on international and domestic politico-legal and socio-economic issues, enriching the overall experience. The curriculum prepares graduates for success in legal practice, academia, or public service by cultivating competence that contributes to the formation and interpretation of constitutional law. The LL.M. programme is conducted in accordance with the Karnataka State Law University’s Ordinance Governing the LL.M. Degree Course.

Syllabus

Course Duration and Structure
Specialisation Offered: CAIL currently offers a 2-year LL.M. Degree with specialisation in Constitutional Law.
Duration: The LL.M. Degree shall extend over a period of two academic years, consisting of four semesters. The students shall have to study all the six core subjects, nine specialised subjects from a single group, and complete the dissertation and practical work assigned.
Academic Year: Each academic year shall comprise two semesters.
Semester Period: Each semester shall consist of 18 weeks of instruction.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction for all courses offered shall be English. All examinations, including internal assessments and university examinations, shall be conducted in English, and examinees are required to answer the question papers in English only.
Attendance
No student shall be permitted to appear for the end-of-semester examination in a given course unless he/she has, to the satisfaction of the course teacher, fulfilled the course requirements and has put in not less than 75% attendance in the course concerned.
Provided that a student who has attended not less than 65% of classes in each of the subjects prescribed may be permitted to keep the term for reasons to be recorded in writing and to the satisfaction of the Principal.
Promotion
- A student who has been detained due to shortage of attendance shall not be allowed to be promoted to the next semester.
- A student who has completed all the courses prescribed for two semesters in the academic year by securing not less than 40% marks in each of the subjects shall be eligible to pursue his/her studies in the next academic year of the programme.
- A student who does not secure a minimum of 40% in any course shall be declared as failed in that course.
Award of Degree
A student shall be eligible for the award of the LL.M. Degree after he/she has successfully completed all the prescribed courses in all the semesters and has secured a minimum of 40% in each subject and 50% in the aggregate.
Award of Classes
The classification of the degree shall be based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained across all semesters. The classes shall be awarded as follows:
- First Class with Distinction: 70% and above
- First Class: 60% and above but less than 70%
- Second Class: 50% and above but less than 60%
